CHOOSING CREMATION AS PART OF YOUR AFTER-DEATH PLAN

Some forty or fifty years ago there was only a very small percentage of the United States public which opted for cremation as their or their loved one’s after-death plan. These days, however, more and more people have accepted this option than ever before—40% of all deaths in the US include cremation as part of an after-death plan.

At Davis-Struempf Funeral Home & Crematory, we are faced with the questions, “Why choose this service? Why not a traditional burial?” quite often. The truth is, there isn’t one short answer for this, as everyone’s experiences and preferences vary. Here are the reasons we’ve found among the many to be true for most:

  • Affordability: this is probably the #1 underlying reason people choose to include cremation in their own, personal after-death plan. With traditional burials and ceremonies averaging $7,000-$10,000, a less costly option has become more desired.
  • Environmental concerns/space concerns: to be frank, cremations take up less land and use fewer resources than traditional burials in caskets and in cemeteries.
  • Diminishing religious restrictions: more major religious bodies are recognizing and acknowledging this option than ever before.

Our aim here at Davis-Struempf is to provide a loving, safe space for you to make very tough decisions for your future and/or for your loved one. And, if you are considering cremation as part of your after-death plan, or if you are in need of services for your loved one in the Austell, Mableton, Smyrna, and Marietta, GA area, we want to help guide you with this short question-answer article.

What is cremation?
Cremation is the process of burning the physical remains of someone who’s passed away into cremains (ashes). As mentioned, this is one of many options that differ from the traditional burial, though sometimes family members will choose to bury the ashes.

What makes cremation with Davis-Struempf a unique option for me or for my loved one?
In 1996, Jim Davis and Debbie Davis Struempf opened Davis-Struempf Funeral Home. This brother-sister duo comes from a lineage of family members serving this community for more than 65 years. Their father guided them in the funeral business and helped them to form and maintain the caring professionalism with which they serve, today.

Our on-site crematory services, which were later added to the various services provided, is held to a very high standard. The owners know how important it is to all family members of the deceased to have their loved one’s remains treated with the utmost integrity. Because of this additional on-site service, the bereaved have the peace of mind that their loved one’s remains need no additional transportation/transferring of locations to have their final wishes carried out.
