There is no experience like grieving a loved one. This type of loss brings about waves of unfamiliar, raw emotions that are unlike any other hardship in life. Here at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home & Crematory, our caring professionals have spent years supporting the family and friends of the deceased through the intimate process of selecting after-death options with the highest level of integrity and grace.

Here in Austell, GA, there are more families choosing cremation services instead of traditional burials than ever before. In fact, in the United States, approximately 4 out of every 10 deaths result in cremation. This is a stark increase from statistics in the 1980s and 1990s when the numbers were less than 10%. Why is this, you may wonder? Let’s discuss.

Why is there such a jump in popularity for cremation services?
The influx of numbers surrounding cremation services is linked to a few changes in our culture over the last thirty years. The most significant influence on this growth is cost. Cremation services are far less costly than the average traditional burial, which is around $8,000+. Further, families today are more spread out across state lines (which affects travel and planning). Cremation services offer more flexibility with timelines for events.

Why are cremation services so much more affordable?
In comparison to traditional burials, which typically include a casket, a viewing (which requires storage of the body), embalming and makeup, funeral home space rental, etc., cremation services can require far less fees: the burning of the physical body into cremains (ashes), an urn—and that’s it. Of course, additional ceremonial options are still an option in addition to cremation services.

What additional services can be added to the cremation of my loved one?
You can add any services you want unless otherwise noted in a pre-plan. Most choose to have services held at the funeral home, but you can design whatever type of life celebration you see fit. Off-site locations we’ve assisted families and loved ones to carry out:

  • Places of worship
  • A favorite restaurant
  • A personal residence
  • Park or other sentimental location

As for services we offer here at Davis-Struempf, you can have any of these added to cremation services:

  • Memorial gathering in our chapel
  • Tribute videos
  • Personalized printing (books and other memorabilia such as bookmarks, memorial folders, etc.)
  • Memorial websites

How can I be sure Davis-Struempf is the right option for my loved one’s cremation?
The best advice we can give you—no matter where you’re considering after-death services for your loved one—is to do your research. Look into the qualifications of the staff, the time in business, the specific process they use for cremation services (ours is detailed on our site), and the reputation within the community. Note: on-site cremation services are a significant “plus;” this means your loved one’s body is never being transported off-site.

The staff here at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home & Crematory want to help you to honor your loved one’s wishes and to carry out the most loving, respectful final arrangements. Please give us a call and let us help to ease the burden from you during this delicate time.
